Chamber Jazz Collective

Chamber Jazz Collective was established in 2017. At the center of this project is collaboration between jazz and academic musicians. A wide and colorful sound palette, synergy, transcending of borders and musical vastness are some of the main qualities of this hybrid ensemble.

The musical leaders of this project are bassist Jānis Rubiks and pianist Edgars Cīrulis. They are joined by drummer Rūdolfs Dankfelds and string quartet players: Alekejs Bahirs (violin), Kristiāna Ozoliņa (violin), Ivars Brīnums (viola) and Dārta Trasune (cello).

During its existence this collective has performed in such projects as “Ciurlionis and Jazz“ (Baltic Symphony Festival 2020 opening concert), “Classic meets Jazz“, festival “Young Latvian Chamber Musicians for Saulkrasti“, “Latvian Chamber Jazz Landscapes”, etc.

Among the renowned academic musicians that have performed with this collective are Jānis Pauls, Margarita Ogibalova, Silvija Krauze and others. The rhythm section has featured Svens Vilsons, Atis Andersons, Jānis Jaunalksnis.
